This luminaire project, developed in collaboration with Econyl, draws inspiration from the vibrant heritage of Madras Checks, traditionally woven by the fishermen of Chennai, India. By utilizing Econyl® yarn, crafted from 100% recycled nylon, the piece encapsulates the evolution of Madras Checks from a humble, handwoven fabric to a globally recognized pattern that has often ended up in landfills as mass-produced replicas. This initiative not only pays homage to the art of weaving but also addresses modern sustainability challenges by contributing to the reduction of plastic pollution.
Designed to serve as both illuminating wall coverings and upholstery, these luminaires beautifully integrate into the spaces of Econyl clients, enhancing their decor while preserving a piece of cultural history and environmental responsibility.
